Chat on your product page: placement, timing and what it delivers

The product page is a decision moment
Visitors on a product page have already chosen what they want; they're weighing up details. Will it fit? Will it arrive on time? Can it be returned? Those are exactly the questions one chat message can resolve.
If the answer doesn't come, the visitor doesn't head to your FAQ — they head to a competitor.
Where should the chat sit?
The standard bottom-right bubble works, but performs better paired with a text prompt near the buy button:
- A subtle link — 'Question about this product? Chat now' — under the order button.
- On mobile: no bubble overlapping the order button — that costs more conversion than the chat brings in.
- For expensive or complex products: an explicit invitation for advice rather than 'can we help?'.
Triggers that work
Proactive chat works when it responds to behaviour, not a timer. Think: more than 60 seconds on the same variant, a second return visit to the same page, or scrolling to the size chart without moving on.
Stick to one trigger per page. Two invitations back to back feel like a salesperson standing too close.
Measuring the effect
Compare conversion between visitors with and without a chat conversation, within the same product category and time period. Include order value too: advice conversations often lead to a pricier variant or an extra item.
